Water Street Condominiums
The Water Street building was converted from a machine factory and warehouse nearly seven years ago into apartments as part of the early redevelopment of downtown housing in the Warehouse District. Now after seven years, the owners of Water Street are converting the building to for-sale housing to serve the sector of young and old alike spearheading the rebirth of downtown living.
Water Street takes advantage of spectacular lake views, large living areas, high ceilings, and its location. Water Street is located in the historic Warehouse District and within walking distance of dozens of restaurants and night-life, a grocery store, the Flats, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Great Lakes Science Center, all sporting venues, shopping, Central Business District, and is accessible to all major highways within minutes.
With the conversion comes substantial renovation. A capital improvement project is currently underway to upgrade all public areas of Water Street and convert the apartment style units to contemporary condominiums. The main entrance to the building has been opened up as a two-story space highlighted by three alabaster chandelier fixtures, decorative wood panels, a stone and tile mosaic floor, while maintaining safety and security for all residents. Upgrades from the lobby to the main building elevator are also being completed with a new carpeted floor with stone tile border, classic paint scheme, and new decorative lighting and artwork. All elevator lobbies and floors are also being replaced in keeping with the contemporary scheme.
Improvements to the exterior are also underway. A new entrance canopy has been installed extending from the front door to curbside providing cover to guests or goods being dropped off at the building. A new 25-car parking lot is being installed at the southwest corner entrance to Water Street. The parking lot is secured by an automatic gate and buzzer system. The eastern-most private building entrance is slated for a new entry canopy and large storefront window system. The new window system will provide natural lighting the vestibule and corridor leading to the building’s elevators. Roofing improvements are a prime consideration for this project. All lower levels and upper level roof surfaces will be improved or replaced in order to facilitate installation of roof decks and maintenance of the entire roof area for all condominium owners.
